Read →Updated 2026-10-01PAPERHEAD is a first-person boomer shooter dropped into a cardboard horror story. You run an abandoned research facility with a shotgun in one hand and a pencil that can redraw the room in the other. Kick barrels, stomp heads, sketch a bomb when you run dry. The store page still lists October 9, 2026.
This site is a fan guide for that launch window: what is actually on the public record, what the prologue already taught players, and what the developer said is changing for 1.0.
What you are getting into
The loop is short and mean. Movement first, then a joke that turns into a fight. The cardboard look is not a filter — enemies, props and architecture are paper, and the pitch is that paper can bleed. Combat is old-school: toss a body, boot an exploding barrel, land on a skull, or end it with the shotgun. The pencil is the twist. Official copy lists three uses that are already in the playable slices: sketch bombs, draw doors, write on walls.
HypeTrain Digital is publishing. The store credits Paperhead te4m as the developer. Steam lists full controller support, Steam Cloud, achievements on release, and eleven languages including English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Before you buy
Steam has not posted a price. Community threads asking for a pre-order button have no official answer — there is nothing to click yet. Minimum PC spec on the store is Windows 7 64-bit, 2 GB RAM, GeForce 9800GT-class GPU, DirectX 9, 2 GB disk. Recommended is Windows 10, a 2.4 GHz quad-core, 4 GB RAM, GTX 460-class, DirectX 11, 3 GB disk. Treat those as the listing, not a benchmark for the October build.
The free prologue PAPERHEAD EP.0 had its Steam page closed on September 24, 2026. If it is already in a library, it stays. If it is not, that claim window is gone. A separate Next Fest demo existed earlier in the year as a slice of the full game; the current store page does not show a demo install button.

What to do first this week
- Wishlist the Steam page (
app/2680280) if you have not — that is the only public "I'm in" button until a price appears. - If EP.0 is already in your library, boot it once for movement, kicking and the pencil. Do not expect the 1.0 shops; those were announced as a release addition.
- Read the release date note so you are not still aiming at the old September 18 window.
- If the demo or prologue hitching on your machine, jump to demo vs EP.0 before you assume the October build is the same.
FAQ
Is this a cute game or a horror game? Both, on purpose. The store frames a charming cardboard world that went wrong.
Is Edmund McMillen involved? The store credits Paperhead te4m and HypeTrain Digital. A Steam discussion asked; there is no official yes.
Mac? Players have asked. The listed requirements are Windows. No Mac line on the store.
